maybe its just me that feels this way, but i cant stand the way they look. the front end is still aggressive looking but overall the entire car has gotten bigger, and looks like every other mid-size sedan on the market. i want the crazy looking cars again

I liked what I saw from the teaser pic of the front, but the leaked stock photos are sort of a let down. They're a little dimensionless though, you can tell the fenders are wider but not how much.
Those damn mirrors though. Geez. That's the one thing that stuck out (literally) to me when the new Impreza came out. They're freaking huge.

GUYS, lets calm down & talk about this..
I agree, this car is a big let down & I do not like it..
BUT lets recall 2008, when we got a WRX that had a hoodscoop, and a lame sauce td04 turbo. the very next year, the car saw a much improved turbo and suspension, making for a much better car. not that theyre terrible car, theyre just very.. understated
then, in 2011, we got a widebody just like the STi :Dagain, much better
my point is 2 things, the car should get better, AND what does the new STi look like? perhaps a WIDER body? more aggressive looks? (I hope)
also, lets not forget, this car will have an FA20t @ 300 HP?.. maybe the STi will get FA25? I'm just guessing.. but basing my guesses off of history..

Well this is about as leaked as it gets. Almost full review a week before the official debut.
well really glad its getting the FA series...means a lot more room for power. but why on earth would they give it a cvt...i know its an option but still...why buy an automatic sports car...

The autotragic will make it appeal to a wider market, just like the A-Line cars in Japan. My wife can't drive manual and having auto as an option would immediately put it as a contender for her next car. At least it's just an option, not like VW did back with the MKV R32 and made it flappy paddle only.
but if you were going to get an auto why a WRX? just curious, seems like an impreza or legacy would do the same job but be more comfortable and cheaper. i dont know a whole lot about how CVT's work, but dont they generally get worse gas mileage than normal autos?

Wait... 3 shifts to get to 60... I hope they mean third gear, if not WTF that's nuts!!! my vette ALMOST did 60 in first!

Because fun AWD turbo car, and having two fun cars is more fun than one? No other reason I could really think of. A regular Impreza would be easier on gas, and cheaper, but 148hp isn't all that fun. Besides, it's not like getting an auto in a vette or settling for an auto NSX or something.
As for CVT gas mileage, I don't really know. My mother-in-law has a '14 Forester with CVT and it gets pretty good mileage.

Yeah they have to mean 3rd lol. Guess the gears are shorter like the early STi's. I can hit 60 in 2nd.

yea i think that is all BS lmao. CVT's dont have gears...its basically what is attached to snowmobile engines i wouldnt be upset at all if it had a DCT as an option, that would be perfect with the auto mode so anyone could drive it, but still be competitive and fun for the enthusiastic driver

The EVO X MR only came as an SST dual clutch as well as the ralliart.

I haven't looked at it myself yet but this should be an explanation of the CVT... Everything i have ever heard about them says they are a bore to drive.

4 doors is part of the allure of the subaru for me. Even though I'm so damn tall no one can sit behind me lol.
I liked the first photos of the new wrx. That red one looks very dodge dart ish to me.
I love having 4 doors too Grinchy. Some people like 2 door vehicles, but it just makes things more convenient in putting stuff in the rear seats or putting people back there.

Seriously though for me, it's the look of the car Coupe's tend to have a lower slung back glass with a smoother transition to the rear quarters and trunk than a sedan does.. it's the look i like... practicality... who cares lol
I agree. I like the looks of the hawkeyes. It looks quite bland to me. It doesn't scream fast subie at all. lol Mine probably doesn't either though with the bugeye look. I still like to have eyelids on it, but in a way where the blinker is still visible.

On paper it looks like they've done a lot of things right performance wise. Almost all the suspension bits are better, quicker ratio steering, etc. Read somewhere it can do 1.1g on skid pad, which is pretty damn good for stock (if it's true). Although it is said to be a little heavier then the outgoing model.
But they did all that and made it look very much like all the other smallish to mid size sedans. Maybe it will be better in person, and not in red, but I doubt it. That rear valance bit looks awful, like they didn't know how to finish the bottom of the bumper, so they made that.

Well I like it folks. Remember it's just a WRX, not and STI yet. I am sad the the Sti will still have an EJ for now.
It is still going to be the baseline for sports sedans around the world. Let's just see how it drives.

40% stiffer that's a big plus most of those skid pad numbers and are dependent on tire selection. the WRX handling capability has impressed me since i have driven vixens for the first time.
i see heavier and longer wheel base as negative things as... well power didn't really go up substantially... cars do not NEED to grow.

I think the power level is fine and it has been for years. What they could improve on is chassis development, balance etc. If the weight is going up; they need to have a cheaper alternative. I.E a track pack/ comp edition. No radio, rear seat delete, rear mounted battery, roll up windows etc. IMO

since they didn't use the new motor in the STI maybe they under rated it to keep people buying STI's one more year.. ( i'm hoping)
I don't want the base line, i want the pinnacle hehe

You're dead set on buying one already with "hopes" that it'll look better? I'm gonna bet it'll be the same ugly car w/ a wing, or maybe some fender flares. I have the same hopes, though.

Yes yes the windows on my car were done well, but DAMNIT I need to cover them up
I still like the overall design, but it is getting less edgy and more squishy
